Year 7 trip to Blacklands Farm
Blacklands farm has taught us lots about the importance of
co-operation and encouragement. We have found that physical challenges have
helped us to overcome some of our fears.
'All aboard' made students emotions reach new heights! This tricky
challenge consisted of a tall, thick wooden pole planted upright in the
ground. We had to climb up using the foot holds provided to reach the top of
the pole and then clamber onto a tiny platform which had to accommodate four students!
It was an especially hard task seeing that the weather had been bad and the
wood was all slippery and slimy.
Abseiling was an emotional test for lots of participants. From the
top of the abseiling tower it looked like the ground was miles down! Although
it looked terrifying from the top once you were bouncing down it wasn’t that
bad. Everyone was so encouraging that most of us managed to do it.
The highlight of everyone’s day was the egg challenge! Throughout the trip each group had to look
after an egg. We named them, drew faces on them and in some cases broke them! If they got smashed we had to buy another one
with our team points. “It was really
hard to look after our eggs all day”, said Georgia . At the very end of the day
we had to make parachutes and a leader launched them off an abseiling tower!
Sadly most didn’t make it but it was worth while!
Overall, Blacklands Farm has helped year 7 realise the
similarities and differences in our personalities and how working in a team to
combine all our talents is an efficient way to work and learn. Our group leaders have all said that they are
proud that we have taken on new challenges and completed most tasks. This trip
was fun and exhilarating at the same time, and we all learnt a lot.
