Mr Stephen Ziegler, our
Design and Technology Technician, has been talking to our students at this
week’s assemblies about his family connections with World War I. He had nine close male relatives on the
maternal side of his family who took part in the Great War and has carried out
extensive research about them. They were
farmers and horse breeders and his account gives a touching insight into how
the war had a profound impact on local communities in East
Sussex . A fascinating display
of his research, including photographs, a war diary of one of his relatives, and
local newspaper articles written at the time, is on view in the school
entrance.
This supports our ongoing
project to commemorate World War I, and History students are currently researching
local men in this area who participated in the war and their work will be added
to Mr Ziegler’s.
