11 Weald and their
tutor, Mrs Diane Mace, wanted to celebrate the existence of a Weald tutor group
as theirs is the last for the time being. They decided to plant a tree which
will grow for many years and enhance the school environment.
Possibly, in years to come,
their own children will come to Chailey and enjoy its beauty and sit under its shade!
It was decided to plant
a tree indigenous to the Wealden area and the Woodland Trust suggested a
Hornbeam. This is a tree which, historically,
was grown in the Wealden district for smelting for the iron industry and was
used to make the charcoal.
Good luck to all in 11 Weald and a big thank you for giving Chailey such a lovely reminder of you.
