Laura Brightey, Year 11 writes:
On Saturday the
27th September we (the choir)
performed three songs in a concert to commemorate and remember the events that
took place during World War I. We, along with various other performers,
displayed a range of poetry and music written during and about the War.
Chailey Choir
itself sang three songs; Long Way to Tipperary ,
Pack up Your Troubles and Goodbyeee. I really enjoyed it because the
entire event was very interesting and educational. The songs we sang were not just
amazingly fun to sing, but also had meaning and purpose. Thanks to Sir, (Mr
Sandford), we were able to participate in the wonderful evening. It was a
fabulous and exciting experience for everyone.
The poetry
included some very well known items and some less well known. The evening also
included regional and folk music. These were very beautiful, and in parts,
very entertaining. The evening was not all doom and gloom about how awful the War
was, there was also some humour about playing football in the cold during the
Christmas truce. We came away in high spirits with thoughts on how those brave
men and women gave their lives, so we could be free.
It was a
wonderful evening, full of music, poetry, remembrance and deep thoughts. I am
so pleased I could take part. So pack up your troubles in your old kit bag and
smile, smile, smile.
