First World War Centenary Battlefields Tour Programme

The First World War Centenary Battlefield Tours Programme is jointly run by the Institute of Education and Equity on behalf of the Department for Education and the Department for Communities and Local Government.

Its aim is to provide a unique and powerful educational experience to commemorate the Centenary and transform teaching of the First World War within English state funded secondary schools.

Two students and one teacher from every eligible school will have the chance to visit key battlefield sites of the Western Front that tell the stories of their region.  The tours form the centrepiece of a broader education programme designed to develop a deeper understanding of the significance of the First World War and to create an enduring legacy.

Chailey has been selected as one of the participating schools and Mr Cullen has accompanied two Year 11 boys, Alex Ranson and Ethan Wood, and they will be writing a piece for the Blog about their experiences of the trip.  Meanwhile, here are some photos.
